Can you think of anything sweeter than the soft skin of your newborn baby? As a new mother you should learn how to keep your baby’s skin smooth, but healthy, because the skin is a protective barrier. Here are some tips on healthy pampering; to be sure your baby puts its healthy soft cheeks on the baby crib bedding.
Wise Bath Time
Most parents think they should bathe their baby every day, making it a nightly ritual. You should know that there is no need to fully bathe your child more than twice a week until it reach the crawling phase. Most of the time you should only use a sponge to clean certain areas such as: the diaper area, mouth and neck, around armpits, thighs, and double chins. Some dermatologists suggest using soap only in folding areas and use plain water on everything else.
It is very important not to dry your baby’s skin. That is why you should be very careful when choosing a cleanser. Dermatologists insist on using mild soap free liquid cleansers without fragrances or dyes. Those cleansers might not lather as much but are very effective and doesn’t hurt the skin or sting the eyes. Even though they are lots of fun, avoid bubble baths.
Say No to Rash
Notice a red skin around the diaper area? It’s probably a diaper rash. This skin irritation is either due to tight diapers, wet diapers, or a reaction on a cosmetic product or a detergent. To avoid rashes, change your baby’s diaper often and apply zinc oxide cream. When you are holding your baby, its skin touches your clothes. Make sure you use suitable gentle detergents for the clothes, the nursery bedding, blankets and towels. Some materials can irritate the skin, so make sure you use cotton for your baby boy bedding or baby girl bedding.
Sun Can Bite
Avoid exposing your baby to the sun as much as possible. But sometimes you have to get out of the sun with your child; so when you do, always dress your child to cover and protect its tender skin. These items are a must: a hat, long-sleeved clothing and pants and sunglasses with UV protection. Also, the use of a sunscreen with a sun protection factor above 15 is highly advised. The sunscreen should only be applied to small areas that are hard to cover with clothes. Avoid going out in the sun between 10am and 4pm because the sun is the strongest then and it can do a lot of harm on the skin. Choose sunscreens with titanium dioxide or zinc oxide, and reapply sunscreen every 2 hours.
These baby skin care tips will leave your baby’s skin as healthy and soft as the day they were born.
